About The Founder

A lifelong athlete and former Division 1-AA football walk-on, Chris is no stranger to athletics.  After competing in multiple varsity sports in high school, Chris went on to compete in 6 different Olympic distance Triathlons, compete in powerlifting in raw, single-ply and multi-ply divisions, culminating in three different appearances in the XPC World Finals at the Arnold Sport Festival in Columbus, Ohio.

No matter where you are right now with how much you weigh or whether you’ve ever worked out in your life – change IS possible. But what you have to understand is that there are also no excuses allowed. If you’re on this site looking at what we have to offer in training programs, you are looking to take your athletic talent and strength to the next level.  Chances are, you are probably tired of not being the biggest, fastest or strongest or wishing you knew the exact steps you need to take in order to become that next great varsity starter and one step closer to reaching your childhood dreams.  Only you can make the decision to become elite.  Only you can put in the work to make that happen.

Training & Certifications

In Santa Barbara, California, Chris made a name for himself running bootcamps for service industry friends and co-workers.  What started as a side hustle soon turned in to a full-time business.  After 5 years of working in parks and on the beaches, Chris finally opened his first gym, Bayside Barbell and changed the training game for high school athletes.  Over the next three years, Chris went on to build his brand by working with athletes from different middle and high schools, helping them become varsity standouts and achieving athletic scholarships.

At the same time, he was also the Head Strength Coach for the Santa Barbara Foresters, a summer league baseball program that was home to some of the best collegiate baseball players in the country.  During the Bayside days, Chris trained over 130 collegiate starters, 1st, 2nd and 3rd team All-Conference, 1st, 2nd and 3rd team All-American from some of the biggest colleges in the United States (Rice, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Fresno State, UCLA, TCU, Mississippi State, San Diego, Cal-Berkley, BYU, Vanderbuilt, Arkansas and more).

After over a decade of training in California, Chris moved back home to Washington state where he took over the strength and conditioning program at Mount Baker High School in Deming where he built the program from the ground up, starting with just 27 athletes, only one being female, to close to 100 athletes and almost 50% of them being female in just two years.

Our Coaching Programs

Whether you’re a motivated 13-year-old aiming to boost strength and speed, a dedicated part-time varsity player aspiring to secure a full-time starting position, or a parent seeking to rediscover your youthful vigor, our tailored programs are designed to meet your unique goals. With flexible coaching options, including in-person and remote coaching, we have a program to suit every individual and budget.

Elite Athlete Development (EAD)

Elite Athlete Development was created with one purpose in mind: train people to FEEL and become more athletic and has since morphed into one of the top high school development programs in the country. Utilizing a step-by-step process of assessing an athlete’s areas/needs of skill and strength development, each athlete has the opportunity to have a custom designed strength and conditioning program to fill those needs and help them become a bigger, faster and stronger athlete. We don’t do “sport specific” training, we do ATHLETE SPECIFIC training, focusing on the person and athlete first, to fill the gaps in their athletic development.

Bartl Strength & Conditioning

BSC was created to help those adults who have put their own health and fitness in the background for too long, by giving them an easy-to-follow program that addresses nutrition, mobility, strength and conditioning to help them look better, move better and feel better.

Questions & Answers

3-months allows both the client and the trainer to really dive deep and get to know each other on a personal level not just in the gym.  Like a well written program, relationships take time to develop.  Some kids are incredibly shy and take longer to come out of their shell, while others need more time to develop the skills needed to excel in their sport.  3-month provides enough time for both to happen.

Unfortunately, this is an all too often occurrence due to lack of oversight and knowledge from underqualified teachers and volunteers.  With our LEVEL UP program, athletes train based on their level of proficiency and strength.  We teach and require movement standards as part of the process to move up in the program.  Technique is the number 1 priority for our program and is something we take immense pride in teaching.

The best age is when your child is ready.  That can be as young as 7 or 8 but for our program 12-years old is our minimum starting point.

Time is important for everyone, and we try to respect that as much as possible and expect that in return.  While we try to be as flexible as possible, once you commit to a day and time, you are expected to honor that commitment.  Emergencies and last-minute changes come up and that is expected but if it becomes a frequent and common occurrence, then this might not be the best fit for your child at this time.
